Jonathan Williams

Jonathan Williams quickly became a free-markets enthusiast after receiving his first few paychecks and realizing how much he was paying in taxes. After completing the Koch Internship Program, Jonathan worked for the Tax Foundation from 2005 to 2007. Shortly before applying to the Koch Associate Program, Jonathan was hired by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), where he currently works as the director of Tax and Fiscal Policy. In this role, he educates others, including “state legislators and private sector leaders on important social issues like fiscal policy, in addition to working with others to develop model legislation.” Jonathan’s most recent venture consists of organizing an academy for state leaders and newly-elected lawmakers.

Jonathan credits the Koch Associate Program with teaching him the principles necessary for management and effective leadership. He believes that management is a unique challenge, but learning Market-Based Management® gave him the intellectual and executive tools to manage not only economically, but also effectively and fairly. At ALEC, Jonathan has seen how vital the MBM® principles of offering decision rights, incentive structures, and connecting daily tasks to an organization’s mission are to effectively leading people and bringing about change.

Jonathan is also a contributing author for Reason Magazine, and in 2007 he published a book on the economic comprehensive index; in the past he has co-authored with Steve Moore and Arthur Laffer. Outside of his free-market activities, Jonathan volunteers with his church and enjoys playing softball, golf, and tennis.
