Charles Koch Institute Welcomes Casey Mattox to Free Speech Team

The Charles Koch Institute is pleased to announce that Casey Mattox, esq., has joined the organization as a senior fellow focusing on toleration and free speech. Mattox comes to the Institute from Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), where he most recently served as senior counsel and director of the Center for Academic Freedom.

Casey joined ADF in 2009, litigating cases to protect the First Amendment rights of students and faculty at public colleges and universities across the nation. There he led a team of attorneys that is one of the most active groups of litigators defending First Amendment rights on public university campuses.

Casey has testified three times before House committees on a variety of First Amendment and other constitutional issues. He has also made numerous media appearances, and his work has been featured at USA Today, The Federalist, and Townhall, among others. He earned his juris doctor degree from Boston College Law School in 2001, and clerked for the Alabama Supreme Court.

“We’re thrilled to have such an experienced and principled defender of the First Amendment join the Institute,” said Will Ruger, vice president for research and policy. “Casey’s thought leadership will be a critical addition to the Institute’s work to support free expression and open inquiry on college campuses, and increasingly in the public square as we examine opportunities to promote civil discourse as a peaceful means of addressing the challenges facing our country.”
