With the goal of connecting research, public representation, and partnership-building activities to the larger vision of the Charles Koch Institute and connected groups, we have created a new, critical position: Director, Policy Strategy.

As the Director, Policy Strategy you will be a trusted leader and strategic adviser within our organization. In this role, you will support a team to align the activities of the wider policy team to the Institute’s organizational priorities. You’ll work with the team to set the strategy for these activities and identify opportunities for expansion. Additionally, providing oversight of a team of 18-20 experienced policy and outreach professionals with additional mentorship responsibility of 10-12 junior staff members. As part of the leadership and strategy function, you will be strongly positioned to identify opportunities for professional development for staff and identify talent gaps to accomplishing that strategy.

We are looking for a leader who has a proven ability to craft strategy and drive large-scale, cross-department projects to completion. While thinking big, this individual will also have the ability to see the details of execution. Your responsibilities include:
• Build an in-depth knowledge of current Institute priorities and activities in order to bolster strategy for team initiatives focused on identified policy issues
• Provide strategic decision-making leadership for a significant portfolio of relationships; engage external partners where appropriate
• Provide a critical link between the policy team, collaborators, and other stakeholders across the organization to share in knowledge dissemination, reporting, and other communications.
• Identify team best practices and improve upon internal systems with an experienced eye towards growth.
• With the partnership of Human Resources, set the hiring and professional development strategy for the team and optimize the division of labor. Provide mentoring and coaching to junior and senior staff.

Required knowledge and skills you bring to the team:
• 10+ years of strategic leadership, team building and supervisory experience
• Significant strategy-building experience in a philanthropic or public policy focused role
• A passion for and understanding of the principles of classical liberalism
• Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree strongly preferred
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the demonstrated ability to apply these skills in coalition building both internally and externally.
• Demonstrated success and interest in supervising a team, supporting their professional development, and forecasting for future growth
• Demonstrated ability to seek out and collaborate with traditional and unlikely partners
• Entrepreneurial spirit, humility, and high sense of urgency
• Experience in a grant-making or another non-profit policy environment with exposure to grants processes and related compliance issues is preferred but not required
